In Ulmu village of Ialoveni district, the local general elections cannot be validated because the voter turnout was lower than 25%. Earlier, in a news conference held at IPN, residents of the village said they will boycott the elections for the reason that Grigore Postica, who ran for the mayoralty on behalf of the Liberal Democratic Party, was removed from the race not long before the elections.

In the June 14 local elections, only 493 voters of the over 2,600 written on the voter rolls marked their ballots. The voter turnout was 21.3%. Independent candidate Tudor Coslet won most of the cast votes.

Grigore Postica was excluded from the race following a court decision by which he is banned from holding public posts for a two-year period. In the news conference, the inhabitants of Ulmu said that Postica was convicted unjustly because he opposed evil interests and took care of the villagers’ security by banning the construction of a number of ponds near the levee of the local lake.

Ulmu is the only settlement where the elections cannot be validated because of the low voter turnout. The Central Election Commission will also request the court to annul the election results in Topala village of Cimislia district, where the polling place was devastated. So, the elections in this village could be rerun in two weeks.
