New buses and trolleybuses to be assembled in Chisinau
Interim General Mayor Veaceslav Iordan signed a protocol of intention with the representatives of several companies from the Czech Republic, concerning the initiation of negotiations aimed at assembling trolleybuses and buses in Chisinau as well as the modernisation of the capital’s energy infrastructure. According to the document, the transport units are to be assembled at the Trolleybus Factory of the Chisinau Trolleybus Company.
According tot a press release from the PR Department of the City Hall, “SOR Libhavy” company intends to assemble vehicles which would correspond to European standards, but also ensure their maintenance. “ELTODO” company is to modernise the energy infrastructure of the Chisinau Municipality, a fact which would save electricity and, at the same time, will ensure the illumination of the entire city and the quality functioning of electric transportation.
Veaceslav Iordan pledged that municipal public authorities will create favourable conditions, and will participate actively in the implementation of the project. In the context, the mayor of Chisinau expressed hope that, after the visit of a group of specialists from municipal services to the Czech Republic, the parties will sign the Collaboration Agreement between Chisinau and these companies.
For his part, the head of the Czech delegation, Zdenek Zbatek, chairman of the Administration Board of “Ceska Vychodni” JSC, emphasised that after the visit at the Trolleybus Factory, Czech partners have been convinced that there are conditions in Chisinau for assembling modern buses and trolleybuses. According to him, after the signing of the Collaboration Agreement, Czech specialists will come to Chisinau to assist Moldovan workers in gaining experience, which is necessary for assembling modern vehicles.
About 230 trolleybuses and more than 100 buses are currently circulating on Chisinau’s routes.
