The new Foreign Secretary of the UK David Cameron had a short stop in the Republic of Moldova. In Chisinau, the official had a meeting with President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
“Yesterday evening, I met in Chisinau with the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, David Cameron, who recently visited Ukraine. In discussions, I expressed my gratitude for the support offered by the UK to the Republic of Moldova and to Ukraine. The support offered to the neighboring country is crucial also for Moldova’s security and for the stability and prosperity of Europe. With the head of the British diplomatic service, I also discussed bilateral cooperation and our joint efforts to fight corruption,” stated President Sandu.
UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu. “We discussed the common interest in strengthening the strategic relations between Moldova and the United Kingdom, focusing on the benefits for our diaspora. We treated such issues as the signing of agreements for the mutual conversion of driver’s licenses and reduction of roaming charges as these initiatives will bring significant advantages to our community in the UK,” stated Nicu Popescu.
According to him, it was underlined the importance of stepping up cooperation in the fight against corruption and of bringing to justice those who caused damage to the state and the citizens of Moldova. “The strengthening of the relationship with the United Kingdom is an essential element in building our country’s resilience and security,” said the Moldovan official.
