President Maia Sandu received the credentials of the new ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova. In this connection, the head of state welcomed the new Ambassador Paun Rohovei at the Presidential Palace on Thursday, IPN reports.
Maia Sandu reiterated Moldova's gratitude for Ukraine's resistance to the Russian invasion, thus protecting peace in our country, the President’s Office said in a statement.
According to the source, Maia Sandu reaffirmed Moldova's commitment to support efforts for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, which will contribute to the stability and security of the entire region and the European continent.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the decree appointing Paun Rohovei as ambassador to Moldova on February 7.
The position of Ukraine's ambassador to the Republic of Moldova became vacant in March 2024, when Volodymyr Zelensky discharged Mark Shevchenko, who held office since 2020 and was preceded by Ivan Gnatishin, appointed in 2015. Gnatishin was dismissed by former President Petro Poroshenko in April 2019, and for half a year Ukraine did not have an ambassador in Chisinau.
