Nemerenco says convicted doctor should not be considered criminal until SCJ pronounces

Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said that the urologist from Bălți, who was sentenced to prison, should not be considered a criminal as he, like any other citizen, is entitled to a fair and impartial trial, supported by solid evidence. "We request that this sensitive case be treated with the utmost care," the minister posted on social media, quoted by IPN.

Ala Nemerenco emphasized that the court's decision in the doctor's case is enforceable, but the final ruling will be given by the Supreme Court of Justice. The minister urged to respect the doctor’s right to present all necessary evidence and expert opinions, including international ones, and not to deny his right to a fair trial. "Otherwise, we will have another lost case at the European Court of Human Rights," noted the official.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the urologist from Bălți is accused of negligently violating medical care rules and methods, actions that led to the death of a patient. The defendant was sentenced to two years in prison.
