NBM purchases almost USD 23 mln on the interbank market
The National Bank of Moldova purchased about USD 22.85 mln on the interbank market in December 2006, which is more than 5% of the total turnover of this months on the interbank market. The central bank preferred to purchase US dollars, which have a dominant share on the market.
The purchased money is used to increase the reserves that constituted USD 772 mln on January 5 2007.
NBM’s total turnover on the interbank market amounted to USD 444.66, which means a daily turnover of USD 21.17 mln.
The US currency had a dominant share on the market – 70.21% (USD 312.18 mln), followed by the European currency – 25.52% and the Russian ruble – over 3%.
The average exchange rate of the US Dollar constituted USD 1/MDL 13.0269, EUR 1/MDL 17.1564 and RUB 1/ MDL 0.4954.
