NBM launches 10 lei commemorative coin to mark Our Language Day

Starting August 16, the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) is launching a commemorative circulating coin. It has a face value of 10 lei and is launched ahead of "Our Language" national holiday celebrated on August 31, IPN reports.

The new coin will circulate in parallel with the 10 lei banknote and the metallic currency with the same nominal value, including the commemorative one issued in 2018 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Moldovan leu.

The coin is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of laws on state language and Latin script. It is made of steel, plated with nickel and brass, which gives it a bimetallic appearance: silver and gold and will have a circulation of 250,000 copies.

The obverse of the coin has in the foreground the image of magic bird rising towards the solar rays - "Our language" emblem, at the top - the coat of arms of the Republic of Moldova and the inscription in a circle: "30 years since the adoption of the laws on the offical language and Latin script".

On the reverse, the 26 letters of the modern Latin alphabet with lowercase letters are engraved in a circle, expressing the transition to the Latin script, in the center - the nominal value "10 lei" and at the top - the issue year "2019".
