Natural disasters and fires killed 200 in 2006
Over 50 persons lost their lives in calamities, and 167, including 10 children, have been killed by fires from the first 8 months of this year.
In January-August in the Republic of Moldova 110 exceptional situations have occurred, including 35 natural calamities with an overall financial damage of MDL 132.5 mil., according to the head of the Press Center of the Department of exceptional situations of MAI, Alexandru Oprea. 70 more calamities have been caused by technical factors, with a financial detriment of over MDL 3.5 mil., and 5 exceptional situations with a socio-biologic character. All these exceptional situations have caused 52 casualties, including a child, and an overall financial damage of approx. MDL 136 mil.
209 persons have suffered from 1637 fires, of which 167 persons died, including 10 children, and the financial detriment has been MDL 13.5 mil. The statistics also show the firemen have also managed to save the lives of 496 persons and material means with a value of MDL 100 mil.
374 persons overall suffered from exceptional situations and fires, with a total of 219 deaths, including 11 children, and the financial detriment is of approx. MDL 150 mil.
