Images of the Swift Response exercise, the largest airborne operation in Europe since World War II, were published on the official NATO platform on September 6. In them, soldiers from the airborne forces landed in five NATO countries and Moldova, which participated in the exercise.
In the largest airborne operation in Europe since World War II, paratroopers from France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Italy and Hungary landed in the Republic of Moldova, Poland, Romania, North Macedonia, Spain, Sweden, and Estonia, the Alliance noted in a press release published on its wellsite.
In this way, the Allies and participating countries proved their ability to carry out complex operations in a short period of time, the Alliance said.
The United States led the Swift Response. Conducting these exercises together helps NATO Allies become familiar with each other’s practices, which increases their capacity to act together in the event of a crisis.
The exercise in Moldova took place in May this year and involved more than 400 soldiers of the Moldovan Motorized Infantry Brigade, the National Army’s “Fulger” Special Forces Battalion and soldiers of the United States’ 82nd Airborne Division.
The drilling featured technical units of the National Army and two C-130 Hercules military aircraft of the U.S. Europe and Africa Command. According to the plan, the servicemen performed parachute jumps along the perimeter of the localities of Florești, Fălești and Bălți districts.
