The national women’s tennis team of Moldova won the second victory in Group III of the Fed Cup Europe/Africa Zone. After the 3-0 win against Mozambique, the duel with Macedonia was harder, but Moldova won it by 2-1, IPN reports.
In the first game, Daniela Ciobanu, who ranks 743rd in the world, demolished Magdalena Stoilkovska 6-0, 6-0. Moldova’s top player Anastasia Vdovenco wasn’t so confident and was beaten by Lina Gjorcheska 0-6, 2-6. The winner of the duel between Moldova and Macedonia was decided in the doubles, where Iulia Helbet and Alexandra Perper emerged victorious. These beat the pair Lina Gjorcheska - Magdalena Stoilkovska by 7-6, 6-3.
Moldova is now to meet Namibia in the last match of the group. To qualify for the playoff round, Moldova must become the winner of the group.
