On Saturday, October 26, the Tree Planting Day will be held at national level. The action is part of "A tree for our perpetuation" annual campaign. Today, at a press conference, the Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Georgeta Mincu has urged all citizens to show civic solidarity and to plant trees in order to improve the state of green spaces throughout the country, IPN reports.

According to the minister, the National Ecological Fund has allocated a million lei for purchasing planting material for this activity to be carried out on a surface area of over 500 hectares. "I invite all those who want a clean environment to participate in the tree planting campaign. Everybody must contribute to the well-being of the planet, develop parks and squares, arrange as many green territories as possible, "said Georgeta Mincu.

The MADRM Secretary of State Iuliana Cantaragiu has specified that this year the planting actions will also aim to restore the rivers’ protection strips, which have been neglected in recent years. This is necessary to prevent pollution and fortify the banks of the rivers.

Nicolae Munteanu, forestry chief engineer at Moldsilva Agency, has mentioned that over 14 million seedlings, trees and shrubs, about 60 species, are prepared in the 32 plant nurseries in the country. Oak, ash, maple, walnut, linden and chestnut seedlings will be planted. The land plots on which the planting actions are to be carried out have been selected by the forestry enterprises and local authorities.
