The national tennis team of Moldova had a bad start in the Europe Zone Group III Davis Cup competition that is taking place in Sozopol, Bulgaria. Moldova was defeated by Iceland 1-2 in the first duel of Group B, IPN reports.

Dmitri Bascov lost to Bonifacius 3-6, 3-6, while Andrei Soltoianu was beaten by Gunnarsson 6-4, 3-6, 6-7. The only victory was scored in the doubles by the pair Bascov/Ciumac 6-1, 6-3 against Ristic/Sigurdsson.

On April 7, Moldova plays against Macedonia and Malta, but the rain could hamper the games. Leader Radu Albot does not play for the national team of Moldova. He decided this year to lay emphasis on his individual results.
