Every day, police officers become a symbol of safety and support in society, demonstrating that the police is more than an institution. Every day, they are there for the citizens, in good times and bad, helping to ensure public order, intervening in natural disasters and large-scale events. The statements were made at an event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the founding of the Moldovan Police, IPN reports.
"The police profession is not easy. It requires a lot of perseverance, self-dedication, courage and sacrifice", said the head of the General Inspectorate of Police, Viorel Cernauteanu.
The IGP chief noted that the police system has faced many challenges, but it has adapted to the new realities and faced difficulties.
"2025 is the year of digitalization thanks to state-of-the-art equipment. There are tablets for digitizing processes, body cameras for ensuring transparency, calculators for electronic case management, cars for rapid response, drones for complex interventions, state-of-the-art DNA laboratories", Viorel Cernauteanu added.
Present at the event, President Maia Sandu said that thanks to the dedication and hard work of police officers, people enjoy safety and peace. "You have proved this year, perhaps more than ever before, that the police is a true pillar of the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova", the head of state said.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean also attended the event. "You have fought organized crime, ensured public order, ensured the security and safety of citizens. You have intervened whenever necessary, and in the last three years you have faced enormous challenges. In 2024 you have defended democracy", Dorin Recean added.
The law on police was adopted by the Moldovan Parliament on December 18, 1990.
