National Participation Council starts work

The National Participation Council starts work in its new composition, with a two-year mandate. In a news conference on May 29, head of the Resource Center for Human Rights Sergiu Ostaf, who is a member of the Council and formed part of the previous composition as well, said that this time again the Council will assume the role of monitoring public policies and strategies and the decisions taken by the state, IPN reports.

“We will come up with solutions to the problems we will identify in the work of state institutions. We are accountable to the people,” stated Sergiu Ostaf.

Chairman of the Ecologist Movement of Moldova Alecu Renita, a member of the Council, said this would work more efficiently if the authorities do not ignore the opinions of civil society about topical problems, as it happened often to the previous Council. “We want our voice not to be peripheral, but to form part of the government program,” stated Alecu Renita.

“We want broad communication with civil society and exchange of opinions and more expertise with this,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip told the same news conference. He said the goal of the cooperation between the Council and the Government is to ensure a balance in the partnership between the authorities, civil society and the private sector.

The Government on April 11 approved the nominal composition of the National Participation Council for 2017-2019. The 26 members, representatives of civil society, will be involved in the process of working out, implementing, monitoring, assessing and updating strategic planning documents.
