The Cabinet agreed the national defense strategy for 2017-2021 and the plan of action for implementing it, IPN reports.

The strategy defines the objectives, stages and mechanisms of strengthening the capacities of the national defense system with the aim of securing the state border, developing the airspace control and protection capacities and improving the military training system and the national emergencies management system.

Among the main planned measures are the provision of the armed forces with modern equipment, reviewing of responsibilities of the defense bodies and harmonization of the legal provisions that regulate the national defense system with the European norms.

The costs for implementing the measures will be covered with state budget funds and foreign financing.
