National Culture Fund to be instituted in Moldova

Moldova will have a National Culture Fund – a new mechanism for financially supporting the independent and private cultural sectors, arts and creative industries. A relevant draft decision was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the main mission of the National Culture Fund is to finance projects that support the contemporary creation and the valorization of heritage and contribute to the understanding of artistic phenomena and to ensuring broader public access to culture.

The Cabinet is to approve the method of financing cultural and editorial projects in six intervention areas. The Fund will be managed by an implementing institution reporting to the Ministry of Culture – the National Center for Arts Education, which is to be reorganized.

“It is a law on which a lot of work was done and we are confident that in 2024 already, the creation of the National Culture Fund will be transposed to concrete results and cultural projects with an impact. Also, in its new formula, the National Center for Arts Education will contribute to promoting and strengthening good practices of cooperation between civil society and the public authorities and will offer new stimuli to the NGOs sector and also to arts and creative industries in Moldova in general,” said Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan.
