National Bank of Moldova rejects any denomination possibility of Moldovan Leu
The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) addressed to the population the appeal not to pay attention to the speculations and misinformation regarding the denomination or changing of the national currency – Moldovan Leu.
According to the press release presented on Wednesday, July 19, to mass media of Moldova, the National Bank, in spite of its attributions, states that the information regarding the denomination or changing of the national currency is not grounded. For the moment, there are no reasons, is said in the press release.
The responsible persons within NBM Press service told Info-Prim Neo that lately the telephone calls the calls of the population got more intense. They are demanding answers to rumors regarding the denomination of the national currency. According to them, Moldovan leu is stable for the moment and NBM experts do not know any reasons that led to such misinformation.
Moldovan leu was introduced as national currency of the Republic of Moldova on November 29, 1993, having at that time an exchange rate of 4 lei, against the dollar. Now the exchange rate leu/dollar got over 13 lei.
