At the first congress of apiculturists, which took place on August 19, 2006, the National Apiculturists Association of Moldova (NAAM) was constituted. Stefan Condratiuc, the deputy-chair man of Apiculturists Association “Apis Melifera”, declared that this congress “is the final stage in creating an associative structure aiming at offering solutions in solving apiculturists’ problems and for selling production with an appropriate price”. Stefan Condratiuc mentioned that after the creation, the Association will organize and promote apiculturists and honey production. Another goal of the association is to participate at all expositions and turning to good account products’ presenting occasions, both on local and international level. The head of apiculture laboratory of the Institute for Veterinary Medicine, Valentina Cebotari, said that at the moment 3.5 – 4 thousand of apiculturists work in Moldova, holding about 100 thousand families of bees, but the “honey-bearing base allows us to have about 500 thousand families”. At the present potential the annual production is of about 200 t of honey products: honey, beeswax, pollen etc. The National Apiculturists Association of Moldova submitted an adhering request to APIMONDIA, world organization of apiculturists associations, scientific bodies and organization working in the area.
