National Army Infantry to take part in Moldova-Ukraine peacekeeping exercise Nord-2007

From September 10 – 15, the shooting range Bulboaca will host Moldovan-Ukrainian trainings for peacekeeping techniques called “Nord - 2007”. Throughout this exercise, the soldiers of both armies will participate in trainings which will develop the organisation of a joint humanitarian operation in a conflict-ridden region. According to Lieutenant-Colonel Igor Gorgan, head of J7, the Training Department of the General Staff, 70 military representatives of the National Army will participate in this exercise from the Balti-based “Moldova Brigade” – motorised infantry platoon and group of instructors. There will be 31 participants on the Ukrainian side. According to Gorgan, the exercise will train the representatives of both armies in organising the service of the border control unit, patrolling and giving first aid. The first exercise of such kind was held by the armies of Moldova and Ukraine in 1998. Last year, Ukraine hosted a similar exercise. The “Sud-2006” (Pivdeni) exercise had soldiers, members of the Motorised Infantry Brigade “Moldova”.
