The National Army of the Republic of Moldova marks the 29th anniversary of its creation. Minister of Defense Alexandru Pînzari said the COVID-19 pandemic made the anniversary traditions to be celebrated in a different way, a much heartier one, IPN reports.
“From the beginning, you have been those who struggled for the people’s health and safety while working in the frontline. We combined forces for the country and proved that the people can anytime count on the military. Today I address particularly your families that missed you in this period and now, on your day, they continue to support you as the activities in the army never stop,” says a message transmitted by the minister on the occasion of the anniversary.
President Igor Dodon also disseminated a message, saying today it is the holiday of persons who are directly involved in the processes aimed at ensuring the protection of the state, those who daily display attitudes, sacrifices, courage and honor.
“Looking retrospectively, we can ascertain that the dynamic process of forming and developing the National Army helped this assert itself as a guarantor of the independence of the Republic of Moldova, of the peaceful life of its citizens. The Army has always meant youth, courage, vigor, power. It forms and strengthens the defining qualities of its defenders, patriots and heroes. It also contributes to educating new generations in the spirit of love for the Homeland, of the respect for the national traditions and values,” said President Dodon.
Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated that today it is an occasion for highlighting the importance of the Army and for welcoming the service members who watch over the people’s safety and the country’s security. “During the 29 years, the National Army has modernized itself continuously by training the military personnel, renovating the military facilities, revamping the machinery and intensifying our service members’ participation in different humanity missions and international exercises,” stated the Premier.
He reminded that 130 service members of the National Army served as military observers on UN missions in Georgia, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Sudan, South Sudan, Kosovo, the Central African Republic or the UN Department of Peace Operations in the U.S., while 13 contingents took part in the KFOR operation, where 520 courageous military men made Moldova known abroad.
According to Premier Chicu, the Army’s bomb disposal engineers also fulfill risky demining missions in different localities. Risking their life, they discover munitions that remained in the ground and prevent incidents that can be dangerous for the population. “During the current pandemic year, over 1,500 service members were involved in COVID-19 preventive measures and guarded at posts in localities placed in quarantine. They also took part in the building of the triage center at Moldexpo and patrolled the republic’s settlements,” noted the official.
