Natalia Gavrilița steps down as Prime Minister

Natalia Gavrilița vacated the post of Prime Minister. The announcement was made in a press briefing on Friday, IPN reports.

“After heading this Government for a year and a half, time has come to announce my resignation from this post,” stated Natalia Gavrilița.

Before making the announcement, Natalia Gavrilița spoke about the meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Council that she attended several days ago and about the discussions she had with European officials. “As each time, I convinced myself that the Republic of Moldova has many friends in Brussels and we are awaited in the EU with the open arms. If the Government had enjoyed at home support and trust similar to those enjoyed from the European partners, we would have managed to advance much faster,” said Natalia Gavrilița.

She added that she took over with an anticorruption and pro-European mandate in a period during which the corruption schemes embraced all the institutions, while the oligarchs seemed to be invincible. But the team didn’t yield to pressure. “Dear citizens, the whole world is going through a difficult period. I had the honor to be the Prime Minister of this country and will remain in the service of my people, together with the group of persons who gained your trust. I believe in Moldova. I believe in you, the people of this country,” said Natalia Gavrilița, noting she leaves the Government with the feeling that she fulfilled her duties and at peace with herself.

The Gavrilița Government was voted into power by the MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity on August 6, 2021.
