NOW co-president Andrei Năstase says that the bloc’s parliamentary group will have three lines of action if they become the opposition: constructive cooperation on matters of national interest, a competition of ideas, and tough resistance to abuses, in what in Năstase’s opinion amounts to an effective control of the opposition over the government.

“But I think it’s early to tell which our exact courses of action will be. What I can say for sure is that we have a solid manifesto and we have a number of proposals, legislative or otherwise, to put forward for consideration to the entire Parliament. And as I already said, we will start putting forward our de-oligarchization measures”, Năstase said during a talk show on N4.

Năstase said that it is early to talk about plans as the election results haven’t been validated yet. “From this position, we cannot talk about our plans in either opposition or government. The moment our mandates are validated, we will address all the MPs in the Moldovan Parliament to start the process of formally declaring Moldova a captured state with captured institutions. This will be our starting point. We will establish with everyone interested which the priorities are”.

“Even in opposition, we can act along these three lines: constructive cooperation, when matters of national interest are involved; a competition of ideas, projects and proposals to what the governing side proposes; and a genuine parliamentary resistance when abuses or backslides occur.

“Even if we have to be in opposition, this will be an opposition Moldova has never seen. We’ll make the sparks fly out of those who abuse human rights, the law and parliamentary procedures”, declared Andrei Năstase.

With the February 24 election results yet to be formally confirmed, NOW can count on 26 seats in Parliament, as the Socialists have 35 seats and the Democrats 30. The Shor Party secured 7 seats and three others will be occupied by independents.
