A public exhibition of the works of the national fine arts competition “My house is also your house: together in safety” opened the Council of Europe Week in the Republic of Moldova. Mounted in the Council of Europe Square in Chisinau, the exhibition centers on the rights of refugees and migrants and on the social integration needs of these, IPN reports
Giulia Re, the Head ad interim of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, said that by these drawings, the children aimed to show how the Ukrainian refugees were welcomed in the Republic of Moldova. In the course of this week, there will be held events that will center on discrimination and its disastrous impact on the individual and society, and screened documentaries about the human rights and social problems, made by young directors. A flashmob meeting will be staged in cooperation with the General Police Inspectorate.
Giulia Re noted that the Council of Europe Square is a venue that reminds them of their footprint in the Republic of Moldova physically, but also their long-standing cooperation, of over 28 years. The works presented today show how the Council of Europe’s key values - human rights, democracy, and rule of law - can be applied through the art.
Victor Lăpușneanu, head of the Multilateral Cooperation Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said that on July 13 it will be 28 years since the Republic of Moldova joined the Council of Europe. It is an important period in the history of the Republic of Moldova during which many positive changes were witnessed. The pace of reforms was accelerated. The results achieved so far wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Council of Europe and the development partners. The art exhibition reminds of the fact that despite all the challenges and the consequences of the war in the neighboring country, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will always stand by those who are forced to leave their homes and the close ones.
Germany’s Ambassador to Moldova Margret Maria Uebber said that Germany considers the Council of Europe’s role is to be an early warning mechanism and the Council of Europe needs to become involved for each human being to live with dignity and to have their rights respected. Germany will continue supporting the Council of Europe’s efforts in Moldova and within the activities of Germany’s Embassy in Moldova.
Tomasz Michal Kobzdej, Ambassador of Poland in Chisinau, said the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova for 2021-2024 is a key element for assisting the country to fulfill the undertaken commitments. Support is provided for ensuring the human rights, for taking actions in such areas as prevention of violence against women, prevention of hate crime, prevention of cases of child sexual abuse.
The competition “My house is also your house: together in safety” was held in February-May and was organized by the Plastic Arts School “Alexei Schusev” within the Council of Europe project “Strengthening the human rights protection of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova”. The contest involved almost 200 young people from all over the country.
