The municipal youth prize for a European Moldova has been awarded this year to 13 young people from the municipality of Chisinau, in such areas as science, technology, and literature. The awardees received by 10,000 lei, a trophy and a diploma. Another seven young people received prizes of 2,000 lei each, IPN reports.
In the award ceremony, Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that the mission of these young people does not end here. Their duty is to work in continuation and to change things as the future belongs to them. Even if the assistance offered by the City Hall is modest, it is more than a symbolic gesture and they make effort to support them.
The head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said the number of young people who take part in this contest has increased. “We are glad that despite the financial difficulties, we keep this tradition of awarding prizes. There was extraordinary competition this year. Through these young people, who lay emphasis on the value, we will change the image of society and the country,” she stated.
Awardees Elena Minciuna, a master of philology and lecturer at the State University of Moldova, published a study textbook entitled “Old Greek Language”. She worked on the book for two years and printed 50 copies for libraries and reading halls. “This is the first Greek language book published in Moldova. It is a textbook about the grammar of the Greek language and about the Greek civilization and culture,” she said.
Odri Barca, student of the Theoretical Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi”, who took the prize in arts, said she won national and intentional music trophies. In 2013 she won two trophies at music contests in Ukraine and Belarus.”I’m fond of jazz, but I sing rock, pop, and ethno,” she said, adding she will invest the earned money in launching a song.
The municipal youth prize has been awarded since 1996.
