Municipal transport enterprises did not reduce number of vehicles on routes
The Municipal Transport Enterprises did not reduce the number of vehicles in the light of the reduced inflow of passengers due to the vacation season.
On the routes of Chisinau municipality there are continuing to circulate 102-104 buses. The head of the Urban Bus Fleet, Anatol Gheorghita says that the enterprise is not hurrying to decrease the number of units while they study the inflow of passengers after the increase of the tariffs in public transport on August 1. Gheorghita said that depending on the inflow of passengers, UBF will decide upon increasing, decreasing or maintaining the same number of buses. “It is untimely to reduce the number of vehicles right after the increase of the tariffs”, Gheorgita says.
The daily returns of UBF in the first two days of August increased by 70%. Anatol Ghorghita is pleased of this increase, saying that these incomes will allow UBF to collect annually about USD 5 mln.
The Electric Transport Administration also did not reduce the number of trolleybuses circulating on the routes. The head of the enterprise, Victor Martiniuc declared for “Antena C” that the enterprise does not want to create inconveniences to the passengers during the period when the temperature is so high. According to Martiniuc, the daily returns increased by 30% as a result of the tariff introduced on August 1.
At the beginning of the week, the interim Mayor of Chisinau, Vasile Ursu pleaded in favor of reducing the number of buses and trolleybuses, saying that it is inappropriate to use the same number of transport units as in the periods of the year when students are using public transportation.
