Municipal authorities allocated 750,000 lei for fighting soil erosion in municipality
The municipality will spend 750,000 lei, from the reserve fund, for fighting soil erosion on Grigorescu street, Ciocana district of the capital, and from Tohatin village, locality within Chisinau municipality. The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) took this decision on Thursday, June15.
In this regard, the money shall be allotted for works of geologic and engineer researches regarding the erosions in both foci of soil erosion. At the proposal of the Construction Department (DCC), managing these works, 400,000 lei will be provided to Tohatin village, and 350,000 – for fighting soil erosion on Grigorescu Street.
The required costs amounted to 500,000 lei for the focus in Tohatin village alone. Here, in March 2006, new erosion cases were registered, and as result about 30 houses were damaged.
The erosion cases on Grigorescu Street, according to DCC, started on the eve of Easter holidays.
According to data of the State Association „AGeoM”, 88 erosion foci are registered in Chisinau municipality, on a surface of 241 hectares. The majority of erosions are due to anthropogenic activity, especially by cutting down trees and construction works on high places, increase of the phreatic water level by 4-5 meters compared to the natural one.
In Moldova, there are registered 16,000 sectors affected by soil erosions, 2,332 of them are active. At present about 1,043 localities are affected by erosions, of them 48 need to be displaced.
