MP suggests a new old name for Moldovan Parliament
MP Anatol Taranu, vice president of the National Liberal Party, proposed the creation of a parliamentary commission which would draft a bill to give the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova its historical name of Country’s Congress (Sfatul Tarii).
At Thursday’s Parliament sitting, he mentioned that the Country’s Congress stood at the basis of the Moldovan parliamentary tradition and that there are several countries which regave their legislatures historical names (Russia, Ukraine, Germany, etc). From the point of view of the historical consciousness and further development of the parliamentary tradition this would be an important step forward, Taranu concluded.
He also proposed that the Parliament should summon a festive sitting in order to pay respect to the people who initiated the Moldovan parliamentary tradition, taking into consideration that these days Moldova will celebrate 90 years of the first sitting of the Country’s Congress.
Taranu solicited that MPs should vote on these proposals on Friday, given that most of the MPs are not entirely free in making decisions, preferring consultations with their ideological leaders first.
