The MPs of the Liberal Party (PL) will act in opposition to “the PDM-PSRM coalition”. A statement made public in Parliament by Liberal MP Roman Botan on June 2 says the Liberal Party was paid for its verticality and protection of the national interests with criminal cases started against Liberal heavyweights, IPN reports.
“The union of the Republic of Moldova with Romania was and remains the main desideratum of the Liberal Party as the Bessarabian Romanians should return to the homeland Romania in dignity, safety and welfare. The immediate objective of the PL is to continue to take steps to distance the Republic of Moldova from the Russian Federation and to ensure authentic rapprochement with the European Union and NATO,” stated Roman Botan.
The statement also says that the PL made a conscious decision when it formed the alliance together with the Democratic Party, in difficult conditions, being sure that only the early parliamentary elections were an alternative and the result of these could be easily forecast – a pro-Russian and anti-European majority coalition and termination of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement.
“The Liberal Party remained in the government coalition, working correctly, intransigently and uncomfortably, refusing for hundreds of times to take part in the adoption of decisions that were contrary to the declared and exhibited aspirations of the government,” Roman Botan said, reading the statement.
As a result of the May 26 meeting of the National Council of the PL, the party decided to leave the government coalition and to join the opposition. Later, the deputy prime minister on social matters, the ministers, deputy ministers and heads of agencies nominated by the Liberal Party vacated their seats. Those who chose to keep the posts remained without the party’s political support.
