PAS MP Lilian Carp will request the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to check if all the stages in the building of the Chisinau Arena were respected. “This facility was erected swiftly, with serious violations of the legislation, without taking into account several steps required in the construction of such buildings that are specified by law,” the MP was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference.
According to Lilian Carp, following a response received from the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, it became known that no feasibility study was carried out. There was no zonal urban development plan that would indicate the access ways. Geological studies that would specify the costs of such a construction don’t exist. The PGO should examine this case.
The Chisinau Arena is being erected under a public-private partnership and has a capacity of up to 5,000 places and sports grounds, recreational places, a swimming pool, a tennis court and places for exhibitions, conferences and meetings. Initilaly, the arena was to be inaiugurated on October 14, 2019, but the inaugurtaion was later transfered to this April and then to May 1 this year.
In October 2019, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said it was carrying out investigations into the alleged illegalities related to the implementation of the project to build the arena. Only a number of persons have been questioned so far.
