Movement for People to resume protests after Easter holidays

The Movement for People intends to resume the protests after the Easter holidays. On May 7, it will stage a protest in which the Movement and its sympathizers will seek the resignation of the country’s administration and the calling of snap parliamentary and presidential elections, Marina Tauber, deputy chairwoman of the Shor Party and a member of the Movement for People, stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.

“We will continue to be active as a movement, as a platform for all the citizens who are not indifferent to the fate of our country. We will continue our struggle to obtain the full payment of the bills for the winter months. We will continue to fight for a war to be avoided in our country and we consider that there is no other way out than holding snap parliamentary and presidential elections as all our attempts to have a dialogue with Maia Sandu and the Recean Cabinet failed,” stated Marina Tauber.

She noted that the Movement for People has waited long for a response from the Recean Cabinet to the request to pay the bills. This initiative was supported by the people as over 800,000 signatures in favor of it were collected. “This is the largest number of signatures ever collected from the citizens for a public initiative,” said the MP

MP Alexandr Nesterovschi, who joined the Movement for People, said the situation in Moldovan can be improved by peaceful protests. He and the former member of the Party of Socialists Irina Lozovan decided to struggle in the street together with the people. “We will use in the street our parliamentary mandates to protect the people, to struggle against the police that exert pressure on the protesters. I’m sure that many MPs, incusing Socialists, will sooner or later join the Movement as the situation worsens each day,” stated the MP.

The chairman of the Centrist Union of Moldova Mihai Petrache invoked the ruling party PAS’s lack of respect for the Constitution. “As regards the burying of the head in the sand as the ostrich and the attempt to block the whole information system, I think they don’t want to draw any conclusion from the practice of the previous government. We had governments that held a constitutional majority in Parliament or an absolute majority. They don’t want to look into the ash heap of history and see where those parties with a constitutional or an absolute majority in Parliament are. Objective processes take place in society, but these are ignored by the Party of Action and Solidarity,” stated Mihai Petrache.

The head of the public association “Salvgardare” (“Safeguarding”) Maia Laguta said the PAS should leave from power. “The sooner the senior administration resigns, the faster normal life could be restored in Moldova,” she noted.
