Most of flooded houses are not insured
Only 23 of the houses that were seriously damaged by floods had been insured. The losses on insurance total 366,000 lei, the head of the marketing and sales department at the international insurance company ASITO, Ion Caslaru has told Info-Prim Neo.
“Not all the documents have been presented yet and not all the assessments have been made, but, regretfully, very few of the flooded houses have been insured,” said Ion Caslaru. According to him, 7,000 insurance contracts for houses and buildings under construction have been signed with the ASITO representative offices since the start of the year.
Vladimir Stirbu, the director of the insurance department of the National Commission on the Financial Market, said that all the 29 insurance companies experience the same situation. Such types of contracts make up 0.1% of the all the signed insurance contracts.
“It is evident that the citizens should acknowledge the need for insuring their houses and property. This way, the burden on the state budget will be not so heavy when a disaster happens. The risk would be shared. On the other hand, the owners of insurance policies will not be so vulnerable,” Vladimir Stirbu said.
The two officials said that the procedure for signing contracts for the insurance of property is clearly stipulated in the legislation and the charges are reasonable. The policy “House Owner”, which insures the house against fire, explosions, lightning, earthquakes, thefts, water leaks, storms, rain and other risks, costs 0.15% of the insurance. The damage is compensated for within the limits of the insurance sum stipulated in the contract.
