The Institute of Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon” recapped 2014 and concluded that politically this was Prime Minister Iurie Leanca's year. The first vice-president of PLDM topped the list of the most influential politicians in 2014, IPN reports.
“Politicon” notes that the head of the Cabinet managed to avoid the internal crises that characterized the previous pro-European governments, to maneuver skillfully between the various political groups and to avoid harmful political scandals.
He is followed by his party leader Vlad Filat and another Liberal Democrat in Natalia Gherman, Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. Vice-president of the Democratic Party and Speaker of the previous Parliament Igor Corman was ranked 4th, ahead of President Nicolae Timofti.
Communist leader Vladimir Voronin was ranked the 6th, followed by mayor of Chisinau and first vice-president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca. The head of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu occupies the 8th position. Minister of Education Maia Sandu is 9th and the first vice-president of PDM Vlad Plahotniuc completes the top 10.
According to “Politicon”, the top 10 reflects the most prominent politicians, while those who nearly made it into the top are the politicians who have largely determined the “political fashion” in 2014: leaders of parliamentary groups (Valeriu Strelet – 12th and Ion Hadarca – 21st), party leaders (Mihai Ghimpu – joint 14th-15th and Igor Dodon – 20th), and members of the Cabinet (Vasile Bumacov – 11th, Andrian Candu – 13th, Eugen Carpov- joint 14th-15th, Oleg Efrim – 16th, Dorin Recean – 17th, etc.).
“We can expect the political landscape in 2015, after the parliamentary elections on November 30, 2014, to change significantly. Many of those who made into this year's Top 50 will remain there next year, but some of those who wrote political “history” in recent years will probably fall out of the limelight of Moldovan politics. We predict such a fate for ex-ministers Efrim and Recean, for the Communists' former “grey eminence” Mark Tkachuk, the head of the Antimafia People's Movement Sergiu Mocanu, etc.”, writes “Politicon”
In 2015, the experts will continue to assess the performance of local political class and the results will be published monthly in a Top 50 most influential Moldovan politicians.
