Most active promoters of anti-corruption practices awarded

The most active promoters of anti-corruption practices were awarded Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a contest titled “Own Example – a an inherent and decisive factor in preventing and fighting corruption” both representatives of the civil society and the public central and local authorities were promoted. Each laureate has got diplomas and scanning, copying and printing machines. Thus, among the NGOs, the Legal Clinic from Cahul was awarded for qualified assistance to people. The Health Ministry has been awarded for promoting the campaign “You can stop corruption!” in medical institutions. A prosecutor from Calarasi district, Igor Chiriac, was awarded for prodigious activity. The winner of the contest was the town hall of Rezina town, also appreciated at an international anti-corruption conference in Istanbul. Awards were handed to the Independent Press Association for the campaign “Property at sight”. Valeriu Balaban, the national coordinator of the Country Threshold Program was awarded for promoting the campaign “You can stop corruption!” Awards have also been given to journalists. The first three places went to journalists from Ziarul de Garda, Jurnal de Chisinau, Timpul and from SP newspaper from Balti, respectively. The winners got laptops, photo cameras, Dictaphones and licensed soft. Awards were granted to the most active media in promoting anti-corruption message. Sharon van Pelt, a program director with the Academy for Educational Development has said at the ceremony that each laureate brought in their contribution in fighting corruption and can serve as a source of inspiration for every citizen. Both contests are part of the Program on Strengthening the Monitoring Capacity of the Civil Society from Moldova, implemented by the Academy for Educational Development (AED) with the technical assistance granted by IREX. The program is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and run by the USAID within the Country Threshold Program for Moldova. The general purpose of the program is to consolidate the monitoring capacity and advocacy of NGOs and media pursuing to prevent and fight the phenomenon corruption in Moldova.
