Over 50% of Moldova’s population hadn’t fasted during Lent at least one day and only 7% fasted throughout Lent, shows a survey carried out by Date Inteligente SRL. The survey centered on a number of questions concerning the way in which the Moldovans celebrate Easter, IPN reports.
The data were collected during April 5-14. The survey covered a representative sample of 890 persons. The research centering on Easter was conducted by iData for the fourth consecutive year. For the first time in the four years, the meat products will be present on the holiday meal of more households than painted eggs.
The survey shows that a lower number of people will celebrate Easter: in Chisinau – 88%, while in rural areas – 94.8%. Almost half of the population plans to spend no more than 500 lei on the Easter meal and only 6.7% intend to spend over 2,000 lei.
More than half of the households will have vegetables, minced meat rolls and candies on the Easter meal and fewer households will have the traditional lamb (39.4%).
According to the survey, the population will not take part in the Resurrection service in the church, as opposed to 2019, when 78.4% of those polled from outside Chisinau and 69.3% of those surveyed from Chisinau said they will take part in the service.
