In December 2024, newly attracted term deposits totaled 6,046.3 million lei, marking an increase of 94.3% compared to November. Deposits in the national currency accounted for 64% of the total, amounting to 3,867.7 million lei, representing a 98.9% increase from the previous month. Deposits in foreign currency totaled 2,178.6 million lei, up by 86.5% compared to the previous month, IPN reports.

According to the National Bank of Moldova, the average nominal interest rate on newly attracted deposits in the national currency increased by 0.01 percentage points (p.p.) compared to the previous month, reaching 3.24%. The average nominal interest rate for deposits in foreign currency increased by 0.13 p.p., reaching 1.74%.

In terms of deposit terms, the largest share of term deposits was for periods between 2 and 5 years (55.9%), followed by deposits with terms between 6 and 12 months (23.8%).

Deposits from individuals in December amounted to 3,957.2 million lei, an 82.8% increase compared to the previous month. The most preferred terms were between 2 and 5 years (44.8%) and between 6 and 12 months (29.9% of total individual deposits).

The average interest rate on deposits in the national currency from individuals increased by 0.22 p.p. compared to the previous month, reaching 3.56%. The average interest rate on deposits in foreign currency increased by 0.25 p.p. to 1.63%.

In December 2024, compared to the previous month, national currency deposits from legal entities saw a significant increase of 2.7 times, while foreign currency deposits increased by 30.9%. Deposits in the national currency from legal entities amounted to 1,565.3 million lei, while deposits in foreign currency reached 471.3 million lei.

The average interest rate on deposits in the national currency from legal entities decreased by 0.16 p.p. compared to the previous month, reaching 2.83%, while the average rate on foreign currency deposits increased by 0.01 p.p., reaching 2.16%.
