More citizens seek compensation for shares obtained during privatization of the 1990s

Former shareholders have the right to request compensation payments for the shares obtained during the privatization of the 1990s. Updated data from the National Commission for Financial Markets show that for two months (from December 1, 2024 to February 1, 2025), another 16 shareholders benefited from compensation, IPN reports.

Between December 1, 2024 and February 1, 2025, the Investor Compensation Fund released compensations to three other joint stock companies, and the funds amounted to 961,438 lei, the Commission said in a response to an inquiry made by IPN News Agency.

In total, from August 2023 to February 2025, the Commission made payments from the Investor Compensation Fund to 81 former minority shareholders covered by the mandatory withdrawal procedure and to former shareholders of investment funds that completed the liquidation procedure, in the amount of over 236,000 lei.

The money gained after the mandatory takeover of shares obtained by citizens for patrimonial bonds or as a result of the liquidation of investment funds, but which was not collected by shareholders are accumulated in the Investor Compensation Fund.
