People will be able to return disposable and reusable packaging after consuming drinks and will receive the amounts paid for them when purchasing the products. The procedure for selecting the administrator that will manage the packaging warehouse system was discussed at the Ministry of Environment, IPN reports.

The system provides for the application of an additional tax to the price of the drink – such as those made of plastic, glass and aluminum containers – and will encourage the population to return the packaging after consumption, said the ministry.

The system will be mandatory throughout the country, applicable to both local producers and those who import these products.

Through this measure, the Ministry of Environment aims to reduce the quantities of waste and promote environmentally responsible behavior.
