Members of the Parliament began today's sitting with a moment of silence for all the heroes of our nation who have fallen in defense of the territorial integrity, sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and the tricolor. Member of Parliament Boris Marcoci said that 33 years ago, on December 13, the first brave policemen fell on the Dniester River, who wanted to defend the integrity and sovereignty of the country, IPN reports.
"Thirty-three years ago, at 05:30 in the morning, the police station in the Chisinau-controlled city of Dubasari was notified that an attack was being prepared against it. Guards with an armored car approached the police station", the member of Parliament said.
The special-purpose "Lightning" brigade, led by the late General Anton Gamurari, were the first to come to the rescue.
"The six guards at the entrance to the Nistru bridge were disarmed without firing a shot. Near the traffic police post the first shot was fired from a machine gun by the guards. The first policemen who had heroically fallen for the integrity and sovereignty of this country, the Republic of Moldova, were killed then", the member of Parliament added.
On December 13, 1991, four policemen of the "Lightning" Special Purpose Brigade, Gheorghe Casu (21), Ghenadie Iablocichin (26), Valentin Mereniuc (24) and Mihail Arnaut (21), while on duty, went near the village of Lunga, Dubasari district, to assist their colleagues. The policemen were killed during the operation. By presidential decree, they were posthumously decorated with the Order "Stefan cel Mare".
