Moldova’s representative to the Transnistrian conflict settlement negotiations, Reintegration Minister Vasile Sova calls on the international actors involved to make extra efforts to resume the talks in the five-plus-two format. In the absence of any dialogue and the refusal of the Tiraspol’s representative to cooperate in resolving the emerged disputes, the negative tendencies registered in the Security Zone can have serious consequences, a letter addressed to mediators and observers reads. Moldova’s representative believes that the urgent resumption of the talks can stabilise the situation, and the constructive cooperation of all the parties involved can contribute to finding solutions for the problems challenging the citizens of Moldova and other countries. Vasile Sova reiterated Moldova’s readiness to participate in the 5+2 talks, pointing out that he expects specific proposals from mediators and observers. The heightening tension in the Security Zone, generated by the continuous violation of human rights and freedom of movement, arouses deep concern of the Moldovan Government, the letter reads. The Ministry of Reintegration has been constantly receiving complaints from both citizens, including foreigners, and heads of institutions, who deplore the violation of the regime in the Security Zone by the Transnistrian authorities. The Reintegration Minister says that, despite considerable efforts, the Security Zone witnesses more and more cases where citizens are detained and goods are seized, including the ones belonging to public schools. The Tiraspol regime has again resorted to pressure on Moldovan schools in the region, which are teaching their students according to the curricula of the Moldovan Ministry of Education, by threatening their principals in various ways. The blatant violation of human rights and the heightening situation in the region compromise the trust in the mechanisms established in the settlement process, which is a dangerous tendency, Minister Sova concluded.
