The men’s national tennis team of Moldova is the favorite in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina of the Euro/Africa Zone Group II second round tie of the Davis Cup, considers Marina Tauber, president of the Tennis Federation of Moldova, IPN reports.
”We have real chances and I assure you that we will do our utmost to win, especially because our tennis players are in a very good form. The playground will be an advantage for us. The Moldovans were successful on cinders,” Marina Tauber said in a news conference on April 3.
As in the match with Hungary, the National Tennis Federation was supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sport. “We cooperate intensely with the Tennis Federation. This sport must be supported as we have a sensational generation of players who can create a positive image to Moldova by their successes,” said acting Minister of Youth and Sport Octavian Ticu.
Qualified for this stage of the competition for the first time, Moldova will use its best players in the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina: Radu Albot (222nd in the ATP rankings), and Maxim Dubarenko (477th) as well as Andrei Ciumac and Andrei Gorban.
Marina Tauber also referred to another sports event that will be hosted by Moldova – the matches of the Euro/Africa Zone Group III of the Women’s Tennis Federations Cup. Fifteen countries from Europe and Africa will take part in the competition of next May. “We are convinced that this event will be prepared and held at the highest level. It is an additional chance to promote women’s tennis and sports in general,” said Marina Tauber.
