The first multimodal terminal in our country will be developed with the support of USAID, at the Berești railway station in Ungheni, connecting Moldova to international transport corridors.

The multimodal logistics terminal will integrate all types of freight transportation. In the coming months, an international company will carry out a feasibility study following which the Government will be able to identify international investors willing to develop a regional logistics hub in Moldova, said the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization.

State Secretary Viorel Garaz mention declared that the development of a regional logistics hub in Berești will generate multiple economic opportunities for Moldova, as well as benefits for neighboring countries. Although the investment to develop such a logistics complex will be considerable, in the order of several million dollars, the revenues generated by this facility will be significant. It is an extremely attractive investment both for international investors and for potential investors from the country and the region, said Viorel Garaz.

Moldova does not have a complex logistics network that would offer a competitive alternative to road transport, even though intermodal terminals (which include sea and rail routes) are a key element of the logistics chain for the economy. Considering this, it is important to create terminals in Moldova that will transform the country into a regional hub for the international transport of goods, because this infrastructure will facilitate access to international corridors.

The feasibility study initiated by the USAID MISRA Project will include a complex analysis of the existing infrastructure for the transport of goods, the possibility of developing a network that interconnects various terminals in the country and in the region, the estimation of costs and investment options, and the need of adjusting the legal framework to support the development of such a terminal.
