Moldova’s draft constitutional amendments meet Venice Commission requirements

The Council of Europe, in a press release issued today, says that on 28 and 29 September, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Moldova Fadei Nagachevski had a series of exchanges with the High-Level Working Group established by the Council of Europe to support the Republic of Moldova in the crucial task of reforming its judicial system. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova took part in these exchanges.

The talks aimed at ensuring that the reforms envisaged are in line with the European standards in this area. The Council Europe confirmed that the draft constitutional amendments presently considered by the Government, with a view to their submission for adoption by the Parliament, are in conformity with recent Opinions of the Venice Commission. The Council of Europe will continue to work closely with the Republic of Moldova to facilitate the full and effective implementation of the reforms in the justice sector, runs the press release.
