The Security Zone must not have checkpoints which, over the years, have not proved their efficiency in the process of peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. On the contrary, they have created and continue to create obstacles and prevent the free movement of citizens and goods from both banks of the Dniester. This is the position of the Moldovan Delegation to the Unified Control Commission, which points out that in some places concrete obstacles remain.
In a reply to IPN, the Reintegration Policy Office says that Tiraspol's representatives notified the Unified Control Commission about the intention to reduce the unilaterally installed posts in the Security Zone during 2022.
Subsequently, the groups of military observers from the peacekeeping forces went on the ground to verify the information received and found that most of the so-called block-posts and obstacles created in violation of the regime established by the CUC have been removed. The concrete blocks were removed and evacuated from the road, and the fortification constructions - liquidated.
In some places, however, concrete obstacles remained and were moved from the roadway to the roadside. Sandbags and tires, as well as other types of dugouts dug into the ground, improvised as firing points from firearms, also need to be removed.
According to the BPR, the situation is to be returned to normal, without the presence of military constructions and fortifications, which were completely liquidated in the Security Zone by the CUC decisions of 1992-1993.
"The Moldovan delegation to the CUC has stated this position at the Thursday's meeting of the Commission and the military observers will continue to monitor and document the process of normalization of the situation," the reply said.
