Moldovans will continue to travel visa-free in the Schengen area

Moldovan citizens will continue to benefit from the visa-free regime in the Schengen area. The decision is contained in the seventh report on the European Union's mechanism for suspending the visa-free regime adopted by the European Commission, IPN reports.

The Commission found that the Republic of Moldova has implemented the recommendations made in the previous report.

The seventh report recommends aligning visa policies with the respective policies of the European Union, in particular with regard to third countries that pose a risk of illegal migration or a security risk to the European Union.

It also mentions the need to continue efforts to combat organized crime, with special attention to illicit trafficking in firearms and drugs, trafficking in human beings and financial aspects of organized crime.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken note of the report's findings and recommendations and expresses its readiness to continue, together with other competent national authorities, to cooperate with the European Union in order to implement them.

Over the 10 years of operation of the visa-free regime for short-stay travel of Moldovan citizens to the Schengen area, more than 2.5 million Moldovans have benefited from the visa-free regime, traveling to the European Union more than 15.8 million times.
