The citizens of the Republic of Moldova who decide to return home after living abroad will be exempted from paying import duties on personal effects and a unit of transport. The Government approved a legislative proposal that introduces concessions for Moldovans who left over three years ago, who have a permit of stay, documents confirming that they paid taxes in the foreign country and a driver’s license valid for the category of which the unit of transport forms part, IPN reports.
Under the bill, the import taxes will not be paid on a vehicle younger than seven years whose customs value does not exceed 400,000 lei. The unit of transport will not be sold, pledged, donated, leased out for a period of five years or the beneficiary will pay all the import duties applied when the given concession is provided.
The Public Services Agency will issue distinct license plates for these vehicles. If it is determined that the unit of transport introduced into the country without paying import duties is used by a third person, other than the beneficiary or the husband/wife, the person will be fined and obliged to pay all the import duties.
A person will be able to benefit from concessions only once and only for one unit of transport. The personal effects for domestic use will be exempted from import duties within the limit of one unit per each type of item.
To benefit from the concessions, the citizens will file an application accompanied by confirmation documents.
