In May, new deposits amounted to 2.68 billion lei, 2.4% up on April. Deposits attracted in the Moldovan leu represented a majority, 62.5% and totaled 1.68 billion lei, up 4.4% compared to the previous month.
The National Bank of Moldova says that the average nominal rate on new deposits attracted in the national currency increased by 0.09 point compared to the previous month and amounted to 3.32%. The average nominal rate on foreign currency deposits decreased by 0.12 point, constituting 1.44%.
By maturity, the largest share went to deposits with terms from 6 to 12 months (37.6%) and deposits with terms from 2 to 5 years (26.2%).
Individual deposits amounted to 2.08 billion lei in the reference month, an increase of 13.8% compared to the previous month. According to the NBM, the average rate on deposits attracted in the national currency from individuals, compared to the previous month, increased by 0.15 point to 3.48%. At the same time, the average rate on deposits attracted in foreign currencies decreased by 0.15 point to 1.35%.
In May 2024, compared to the previous month, deposits in the national currency of legal entities decreased by 36%, and those in foreign currencies by 0.3%. Deposits in the national currency of legal entities constituted 335.9 million lei, and those in foreign currencies 265.3 million lei.
