Moldovans involved in cyber crimes in France

Thirteen Moldovans aged between 21 and 48 are suspected of committing information crimes on the territory of France. They installed special equipment at ATMs and copied data from the magnetic stripe of cards. The information was transmitted to other countries, being used to clone bank cards and to withdraw money, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, the damage caused in France was assessed at over 6 million lei. Eight active members of the groups were arrested by the French police when they were installing the equipment at an ATM in Lyon. Another five members managed to flee to Moldova.

As a result of the cooperation with the law enforcement bodies of France, officers of the Center for Combating Cybercrime of Moldova identified the five members of the group and performed 14 searches at their homes and at the homes of the persons arrested in France. In the house of one of them, they found the laboratory for making the devices installed at ATMs.

The police in France started three criminal cases over swindle and extraction of information. The Moldovans will be held accountable in France.
