Tens of Moldovans and also Italians came together today in Rome to take part in the European Moldova Assembly in the diaspora. Some of them covered hundreds of kilometers to say that “Moldova belongs to the European Union”, IPN reports.
Emilia Gramatic, a Moldovan woman who settled in Italy 20 years ago and who forms part of the initiative group, said the representatives of the Moldovan diaspora gathered in front of the Colosseum in response to President Maia Sandu’s call to state the support for European choice. “We like living in Europe. I have lived here together with the family for 20 years and I urge everyone to support the idea of joining the European Union. Moldova has a future only in the European Unpin,” stated Emilia Gramatic.
Piero Leone, an Italian businessman who runs businesses in Moldova, travelled from Toscana to Rome, covering 250 km, to stand by the people of the Republic of Moldova. “I support the Moldovans’ tendency to have developed and constructive democracy as the Moldovan people have suffered during many years,” noted Piero Leone.
“We left the country, but the country remained with us,” said Aurelia Vlaicu, a Moldovan woman who also settled in Italy. “We took with us what’s the most valuable and holy – our love for the country, Moldova’s flag. Today, with a lot of pride, we say to everyone that our Moldova has a future. There is an open road that goes to the large world and this is the road of our grandchildren. They deserve a better life. We are sure that Europe will come to our country too,”, she said, thanking President Maia Sandu for the path opened to the EU. “Long live, Moldova! Long live, Europe! Moldova in the European world!” she stated.
Moldova’s Ambassador to Italy Anatolie Urecheanu noted that the European Integration is a unique chance for Moldova and the country will definitely manage to cover this road. The community of Moldovans in Italy supports the European Integration.
