Moldovans are more predisposed to cardiovascular diseases

Almost each second Moldovan undergoing medical examinations suffers from high blood pressure, show the results of the program “Screening for detecting risk factors that provoke cardiovascular diseases” that was implemented by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) in Causeni, Nisporeni and Falesti districts in September 2012 – June 2014, IPN reports.

According to the CNAM, more than 63,000 medically insured and uninsured people aged between 40 and 65 were examined for the first time within the screening program. Almost 31,000 people of them suffer from high blood pressure. A Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE) method, which is recognized at European level, was used in the screening process. This model is based on a number of European studies centering on the analysis of such factors as age, sex, smoking, blood pressure, weight, level of cholesterol and sugar in blood. The calculated index allows forecasting the fatal atherosclerotic index for a period of 10 years.

The medical examinations revealed that over 10,400 people are predisposed to cardiovascular diseases. These people will be monitored within the screening for 2014-2015. More than 46,000 participants in the examinations were recommended to change their lifestyle.

A sum of 6.8 million like was allocated from the CNAM’s prophylaxis measures fund to implement the program “Screening for detecting risk factors that provoke cardiovascular diseases”.

The cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in Moldova. According to the National Health Management Center, the circulatory system diseases in 2013 caused 22,130 deaths, which is about 58% of the total number of deaths.
