The Moldovan citizens abroad can vote in the runoff election even if they did not vote in the first round and do not need preregistration. A total of 231 polling stations were established abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs, together with the diplomatic missions abroad and the Central Election Commission, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the institutions, in the runoff vote the citizen will receive only one ballot, which will contain only the names of the two contenders: Maia Sandu (PAS candidate) and Alexandr Stoianoglo (PSRM candidate). The voter puts the "VOTED" stamp in the circle next to the chosen candidate.
These are the first ballots in which voters in the U.S, Canada, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland have had the opportunity to vote by post. As many as 1,447 voters sent envelopes with ballot papers for the runoff election on time. Those who, so far, have not received confirmation of the receipt of the envelopes are urged to go to the nearest polling station.
The citizens from the diaspora can vote at any polling station, regardless of their status on the territory of the host country, using one of the following documents: passport (including with expired period of validity), valid identity card, provisional identity card. Polling stations abroad will be open between 07:00 a.m. and 09:00 p.m. (local time in each state). The electoral authorities of the constituency can extend the schedule by no more than two hours.
In France, Italy, the UK, Spain and Belgium, some of the polling stations changed their addresses after the first round. Thus, in Italy, the stations in Ferrara, Chiavari, Siena and Terni have new addresses. In the UK, the sections in Corby, Birmingham, Belfast and Glasgow were moved. In France, a station in Bordeaux and a station in Paris have new addresses. In Spain, the address of the station in Sabadell was changed, while in Belgium – the address of the station in Hasselt.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the diplomatic missions abroad and the Central Election Commission, recommends the citizens to additionally check the address of the nearest polling station before going to vote, on the official platforms of the MFA or of the diplomatic mission in the state where the citizen votes or on the website diaspora.cec.md.
